6 shiny heads and a capsule

shavedheads Went down after dinner to watch the Urban Dream Capsule that is being held at the window displays of Espirit, Raffles City. UDC is a performance installation event where you have 4 grown men staying in an enclosed place where you can observe what they do every minute and can also interact with them. There is a live webcast of this event going on.
I took the opportunity to snap quite a number of shots of them having fun in their capsule. From dancing around, prancing in front of their webcam to helping to cover each other as they step into their open shower room. But the best part was when they start to interact with the crowd outside. Using a combination of a white board, sign language and exaggerated lip movements – they manage to converse with those outside who also used a combination of handphones, PDAs and whatever writing material the could find.

I almost wanted to leave to go to Esplanade when I got a call from JC who happened to be around and I asked JC to meet me outside the capsule. By the time JC appeared it was almost 10-ish and what happened next was magical.
Two guys from the Malaysian dance group, nyo-ba & dancers, ( 寿板舞团 ), who are around for the Arts Festival appeared clad only in their loose pants (what do you call those anyway) and body covered with white foundation. What stood out was they were both clean shaven with just a smack of red on their lips.
They started their deliberate walk, mixed with dramatic gestures, somewhat similar to butoh form of dance as seen in this photo. I’m not an expert so should the descriptions wrong, please do correct me. Slowly they made their way towards the other 4 shiny heads in the capsule.
I managed to find a spot just beside the window where they met and was able to snap some more shots of the two groups interacting. What happened next was pure spontaneity from both groups of performers and it was great fun for those who happened to be around.
Oh well, all in all, it had been a great night for me. To see more photos from that evening, pop over here to see the series. Oh, I wrote to UDC about the photos and they were kind enough to link my fotos on their gallery page.
