2 mistakes – 2 goals.
and england cracked with 5 minutes from doing the unthinkable, defeating defending champions, france.
england didn’t deserve to lose after defending successfully the first half goal by lampard for 85 minutes of the game. but two mistakes by heskey and gerrard gifted zidane with the chances to remind the world he is still one of the greatest despite a rather forgetful season with his club.
campbell and cole, with king and neville played one of their best games to stop the french forwards from any clear cut chances. guess being clubmates, campbell and cole were able to nullify their french clubmates from much of the match. rooney showed much of his talents culminating in the half field run which got the penalty. barthez being once clubmate with beckham, guessed correctly and palm the penalty attempt preventing england from extending their lead.
that miss, plus those two mistakes, gave france the 3 points which will more or less secure them the top place as i don believe croatia and switzerland pose much challenge to them. england would have to beat both of them to secure runner-up spot.
on the bright side, i correctly guessed 3 goals being scored tonight and won around 10bucks.
