Fun Weekend with food, toys and family

The weekend started on Friday when we went to catch the The Incredible Hulk at our new favorite hang-out – Tampines Mall. The place will soon be the place for us as we wait impatiently for our lil love-nest to be ready.

The next day, instead of going down to Sentosa to do our wedding preparations, she decided to hop over to the Singapore Arts Museum to try our luck at the Flea-tique that was being held there. The organisers should go rent some mobile air coolers as it was HOT! No wonder many of the eye-candies who set up stores there were in tube tops. Anyway we gave up looking for anything nice after a short walk. Instead, we went to enjoy the cool air in the Museum when we went to look at the Alain Fleischer: Time Exposures exhibition.

Next she brought me to this nice cosy dinner place called Absolute Haven along Prinsep Street. We were there alil early and though we wanted to shift our reservations indoors, they wouldn’t allow as those inside were reserved, even though there weren’t any customers then. But well, the food’s pretty decent, especially my Oven Roasted Lamb Rack, which was pretty juicy and not a bit of lamby, if there’s such a term. I didn’t like her Seafood Risotto as the seafood taste was a tad strong for me.

Last thing of the day, was a visit to the inaugural Singapore Toy and Comic Convention held at the Suntec City. Not as big as those Comic Con you read about in the US, but there were many things for the fan-boys to see. We went at the wrong time as most of the actions were already gone – Cosplays, autographs sessions by artists and designers – but we took the time to take some photos of the toys there ( mine and her’s ).

Today was the second part of the our parents meet each other session. Brought the girlF and her mom over to have lunch and let our parents sort out the lil details of the weddings. For example like what to do when we è¿å¤§ç¤¼ where we have to give out invites to our weddings and also the customary cakes to our relatives.

We decided that it will be on the first day of August in the Lunar Calendar, which corresponded to 30th August, two weeks before the actual day. As we asked further, no one really knows why we have to give out cakes, but nowadays, people tends to give cake shop vouchers instead. Conveniently.

Other things we decided was that the groom, that’s me, has to bring a roasted pig to the girlF’s house after we gone through the customary tea session at my place. In return, her mom will chopped up the piggy and return the head and the tail to us – sort of æ头æå°¾ – plus she’s suppose to give me ang bao to buy pants…a Cantonese thing – æå¯æè´µ – when read in Cantonese, the first two letters also sounds like having “pants”…

On a totally unrelated path – did you know that the Lunar Calendars, especially those big ass one with tear-away pages, are able to tell you not just the good (å) or bad (å¶) times of the day, but also when it is good or bad to have a hair cut!

Out of all these, I realised that I think we will have a good times together, especially when it comes to our parents. Our moms are both food fanatics, her mom being a former chef and my mom a late-bloomer in learning cooking, has something that will bring all of us closer together – good food! I can expect that our kids next time will be pretty well taken care and well fed… ;)
