Just when I thought I was going to hit the sack after going through the new iMac, SixApart just released MT 3.1.
bq. We’re extremely excited about this new release, and also about how quickly this free update is coming on the heels of Movable Type 3.0 Developer Edition. Whereas it took more than a year between 2.6 and 3.0, we’re now releasing 3.1 only three months after 3.0 Developer Edition. The release of 3.0, combined with the changes in licensing, has allowed us to recommit resources to Movable Type development, and that’s a big reason why you’re seeing major features in a free update released so soon after 3.0.
h6. what’s NEW?
won’t go into details but here are some of the new features:
* Dynamic Pages — allowing you to choose between static page generation or dynamic pages on a per-template basis
* SubCategories — can easily create new subcategories, and move a subcategory from one parent category to another using a sleak, intuitive interface
* Post Scheduling — you can set a time and date for your posts to appear, permitting automatic updates to your weblog even when you’re away
* Better Extensibility — more for plugin developers
* Plugin Pack — result of our Plugin to Movable Type 3.0 Developer’s Contest, contains useful plugins like MTBlackList 2.0 and MultiBlog
That is a big bunch of stuff to look at. Time to tweak templates, codes and more caffeine-induced zombie state of mind.
h6. no upgrading yet
bq. Please note that at this time, only the standard Movable Type tags are supported with the dynamic rendering option. Existing plugins are not compatible with this new feature, since they are written in Perl and not PHP. If you are seeing errors due to using plugin tags, you will either need to remove the tag(s) or change that template to render statically – guide to new features in 3.1
As my site utilises quite a fair bit of plugins, I will have to wait to see whether those plugins are updated before making the upgrade. Plus a host of upgrading errors that is being reported in the MT Support Forum also means this upgrade will have to wait. I’ll most probably try it on the Mac first.
