the games will be broadcast live for the rest of the season.
bq.. The statement also said that the ‘significantly higher cost of English Premier League broadcast rights in Asia’ was a deciding factor influencing the negotiation process over the past few months.
But both parties agreed to continue with the EPL broadcasts as viewers’ enjoyment of the EPL matches was ‘of primary concern to Starhub and ESPN throughout the negotiations.’
p. finally – it will be a big PR boo-boo if an agreement is not met. ESPN had already invested in the broadcast fee with EPL while StarHub marketed EPL as one of the biggest selling point for getting the sports package — so it is a no-brainer that the agreement is made.
Ever need a bigger example to show how English Premier League is important to the all footie fans here in Singapore? Two papers have the news of EPL being unplugged from our weekend tele-diet on their front page as StarHub and ESPN still have not reach a deal for this new season.
And it will be real tragic news if we are deprived from watching our favourite soccer teams on tele every Saturday nights over beer and peanuts. Where will all our ah-pehs punters go as they hold their betting slips in one hand, and TigerBeer ah-sohs on the other?
If that happens, will there be an exodus to cancel subscriptions to StarHub TV since watching EPL matches must rank up there as the number one reason for subscribing.
Think I’ll visit SummerRock again should that happens — they happen to have Astro, showing EPL matches live.

This might be a gahmen’s way of increasing birth rate. It is widely known that EPL live matches on Saturdays deprived wives of their precious prime time saturday evenings – from 9pm to 12pm – with their partners that would be good for family building. So by collaborating with StarHub and ESPN … with NO live broadcast of EPL matches, husbands will have no choice but to go back to their loving arms of their partners. This deadlock coincides with the announcements by the gahmen to increase benefits for child bearing for married couples – source: MWOEPL
